Receiving

Went to a funeral today.  Disappointing to read the obituary and realize that you would have liked to know this man better…

As a part of the service, we took communion — on our knees.  Being on one’s knees is a posture we don’t often take in our lives now.  Anyway, I had to stop and wonder — this bread of life, this sacrifice, this redemption, this new covenant — this is Given us.  Receiving it on one’s knees reminds us that we have not earned this, do not deserve it, can not claim it, but can only humbly receive it.  Humble Gratitude… this is, I think, the truest form of praise, and the starting point for a life lived in response to the Gospel.
